The Rotary Foundation

Founded in 1917 by the then President of Rotary International Arch Klumph as an endowment fund, it is the charitable arm of Rotary.

It has six main areas of focus;

  • Peace and conflict prevention/resolution
  • Disease prevention and treatment
  • Water and sanitation
  • Maternal and child health
  • Basic education and literacy
  • Economic and community development

In 1985 Rotary International took on the mammoth task to rid the world of polio. This is Rotary’s top philanthropic priority. At the time of the launch of this program there were more than 350,000 polio cases in over 125 countries. Since the beginning of the immunization program in 1988 more than 2.5 billion children have been immunized and incidences of polio have decreased over 99.9%. Rotary’s financial contributions to the global polio eradication project totals over $1.5 billion.
