International Service

We are part of the huge Rotary family of over 35,000 Rotary clubs in over 200 countries. With over 1.2 million members we are able to learn from one another and, working together, take on big challenges. Some examples:

  • Rotary Friendship Exchange (RFE) – small groups of Rotarians from different countries exchange visits lasting 2 to 3 weeks
  • Group Study Exchange (GSE) – small groups of non-Rotarians from different countries are selected from their business communities and professions and exchange visits lasting 2 to 3 weeks
  • Rotary Australia World Community Service (RAWCS) – assists disadvantaged communities and individuals through humanitarian aid projects … in Australia and developing nations mainly in South East Asia and the South Pacific
  • Rotarians Against Malaria (RAM) – distributes long-lasting insecticidal bed nets (over 12 million since 2009) in malaria prone countries like PNG, Timor Leste and Solomon Islands; funds R and D and imminent human trials of a malaria vaccine
  • Donations In Kind (DIK) – shipping container loads of hospital beds, medical equipment and consumables, educational equipment, literacy items and school consumables to neighbouring developing countries
  • Interplast – partnering with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, provides free surgery for patients in the Asia Pacific region

At a Club level, we:

  • Welcome visiting Rotarians from other countries to our meetings
  • Enjoy special internationally themed dinners at which we celebrate and learn about another country
  • Undertake special projects to aid our neighbours in South East Asia and the South Pacific e.g. purchasing and assembling prosthetic hands for the victims of land mines in Sri Lanka and Cambodia
